Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Policy

At African Animals Tour and Travel, we recognize that our greatest assets are the people who make every safari possible—from our expert guides to our local community partners. We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labor, and human trafficking in any form within our operations or our supply chain.

1. Our Commitment to the "S" in ESG

In Uganda, tourism supports 1 in every 10 jobs and is a primary driver for gender equality, with women making up 58% of the workforce. We believe that protecting these jobs means ensuring they are decent, safe, and empowering.

  • Fair Compensation: We ensure all staff and contractors are paid a fair wage that meets or exceeds local living standards, supporting community resilience.
  • Safe Working Conditions: We maintain high health and safety standards and strictly adhere to safe working hour limits for all employees.
  • Voluntary Employment: We strictly prohibit any form of forced, bonded, or involuntary labor. All employees have the right to terminate their employment following a fair notice period.

2. Strict Child Protection Protocols

Given the demographic profile of the region, we maintain a Zero Tolerance policy toward child labor.

  • Age Verification: We mandate strict age verification for all direct employees and require the same from our third-party lodge and transport partners.
  • Safeguarding: Our guides and staff are trained to identify and report any suspected cases of child exploitation within the tourism sector or local communities.

3. Supply Chain Due Diligence

We understand that our impact extends to our partners. We proactively vet our supply chain to ensure alignment with our ethical standards.

  • Local Supplier Partnerships: By prioritizing local community enterprises, we reduce the risk of exploitation often found in opaque, globalized supply chains.
  • Supplier Code of Conduct: All third-party providers (lodges, boat operators, etc.) are expected to adhere to our standards of fair wages and ethical treatment of staff.
  • Continuous Monitoring: We conduct regular onsite visits and stakeholder feedback sessions to ensure our "Zero Tolerance" policies are being upheld on the ground.

4. Transparency & Reporting

  • Annual Reporting: Our annual sustainability reports include metrics on our social impact and workforce welfare.
  • Whistleblowing: We provide a safe, confidential channel for employees and partners to report any ethical concerns or suspected violations of this policy without fear of retaliation.

5. International Alignment

Our policy is developed in alignment with:

  • UN Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
  • GSTC Criteria: Meeting global standards for social and economic benefits to local communities.
  • International Labor Organization (ILO): Adhering to fundamental principles and rights at work.
