Accessibility & Universal Design

"Uganda is open to everyone. No traveler left behind."

At African Animals Tours and Travel, we believe that physical or sensory barriers should never stand in the way of a life-changing safari. We apply Universal Design principles across our entire supply chain to ensure a seamless, dignified experience for travelers of all abilities.

Our 3 Pillars of Inclusion

1. Physical & Mobility Access

  • Adaptive Gorilla Trekking: We facilitate specialized sedan chair services in Bwindi, allowing guests with mobility challenges to be carried by professional porters to see mountain gorillas (approx. $300–$500 per trek).
  • Vetted Infrastructure: We prioritize parks like Lake Mburo (Accessibility Rating: 5/5) and Queen Elizabeth (4/5) for their flatter terrain and roll-in shower lodge options.
  • Accessible Fleet: Our safari 4x4s can be modified with boarding steps, handrails, and dedicated storage for wheelchairs and walkers.

2. Sensory & Cognitive Support

  • Neurodiversity-Friendly: We offer "Slow Paced" and "Private Vehicle" options for guests with autism or ADHD, emphasizing predictable routines and quiet spaces.
  • Visual & Hearing Guides: Our guides are trained in audio-descriptive narration for blind travelers and can coordinate Sign Language Interpreters with 60 days' notice.

3. Digital Inclusion (WCAG 2.1 AA)

Our digital platforms are engineered to meet international WCAG 2.1 AA standards, ensuring our itineraries and booking forms are fully compatible with screen readers and keyboard navigation.

How We Plan Your Journey

  • Needs Assessment: A detailed consultation to understand your specific mobility, medical, or sensory requirements.
  • Customized Itinerary: We select only verified accessible lodges and transport options that match your profile.
  • On-Ground Support: You are paired with a guide specifically briefed on your needs and 24/7 emergency medical protocols.
